Embarking on a journey with your furry companion requires meticulous planning and flexibility, especially when travelling internationally. Join me as I share the timeline of my adventure travelling with my dog, Cooper from Toronto, Canada, to the island of Caye Caulker, Belize.
1. December 10, 2023: Booking the Flight Filled with anticipation, I secured our tickets for a flight from Toronto to Belize City, eagerly envisioning the azure waters and sandy beaches awaiting us in Belize.
2. December 11, 2023: Unexpected Discovery A call to book Cooper on the flight revealed an unforeseen obstacle: dogs couldn't fly directly to Belize. This revelation prompted a swift reassessment of our travel plans.
3. December 15, 2023: Change of Plans Adapting to the situation, I promptly changed our flight destination to Cancun instead of Belize City, ensuring Cooper could accompany me on our journey to Central America.
4. January 2024: Veterinary Preparations Understanding the importance of complying with travel regulations, I consulted Juno Veterinary in Toronto to navigate the necessary procedures for Cooper's travel documents. Their expertise proved invaluable in ensuring a smooth process.
5. March 25, 2024: Vet Visit Cooper received his required vaccinations and health checks, including a rabies shot aligned with Canadian standards to prevent complications upon our return. With his health in check and preventive medications stocked up, we were one step closer to our destination.
6. March 28, 2024: Paperwork Processing A visit to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) was required to finalize Cooper's export paperwork, ensuring compliance with Belizean regulations and facilitating a hassle-free journey.

10. April 5, 2024: Island BoundWith anticipation building, we boarded a ferry from Chetumal to Caye Caulker in the early hours of the morning. Cooper's excitement was palpable as he accompanied us on deck, leash in hand, ready to explore the next chapter of our adventure.
